Branch profitability: why sales totals are not enough
SNS Team · Reviewed 2026-11-05
Company-wide sales can hide a branch that needs attention. Unclear expense allocation can also make a healthy branch look weak.
Review branches over the same period using consistent costing, and show cash movements separately. Before opening or closing a branch, discuss whether the issue is demand, rent, operations or expense allocation with your accountant. Take this question into the next branch review.
Prepare separate branch accounts
Arrange revenue and direct costs by branch and agree how shared expenses are allocated. A higher-selling branch may also carry higher rent, payroll or waste. Expansion decisions need results after appropriate expenses, not a sales ranking alone.
A practical step to try
Review working hours, demand by time, service coverage and booking sources. If someone sees one branch's advertisement but books another, define the attribution rule. Understand location performance without penalising a team for an unagreed accounting allocation.
How should ad spend be split between branches?
Test geographical coverage and messages suited to each branch's capacity. Review cost per completed booking, available capacity and service margin. Do not automatically move budget to the branch with most messages if many come from outside its service area or never become bookings.
